John E. Grenke is a graduate of the University of Michigan, receiving his B.A. with distinction in 1973 and his law degree in 1978. Following law school, he joined the Monaghan firm and became a shareholder in 1988. He has a broad-based legal practice representing individuals and their businesses in the areas of taxation, estate planning, probate administration, real estate transactions, corporate acquisitions and mergers, commercial transactions, and non-profit organizations.
Mr. Grenke assists individuals in establishing their businesses, advises them during their operation, and plans for their disposition of their business holdings and assets through estate planning and income tax planning. He has probated numerous estates and advises personal representatives and trustees. He also represents individuals before the Internal Revenue Service in tax and collection matters at the audit stage, appeals level, and in tax court. Mr. Grenke has helped establish numerous nonprofit organizations, aiding them through the maze of regulations to receive tax exempt status.
Active in community service, he has served on the boards of several charitable organizations with a special interest in conservation and civil rights. He frequently lectures in the areas of estate planning, real estate and tax matters. Mr. Grenke is a member of the State Bar of Michigan. He is admitted to practice before all Michigan courts, the United States District Courts in Michigan, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Tax Court.
